This Glen Iris home is a thoughtful reinvention of a period residence, blending past and present with a pared-back, contemporary aesthetic. Designed for a retired couple eager to host family gatherings, the home balances nostalgia with modern living.
A glass link discreetly connects the original structure to a new rear pavilion, ensuring both elements coexist harmoniously. Positioned along the southern boundary, the addition maximizes northern light, illuminating the interiors and landscaped pool area.
Curved concrete walls, inspired by the home’s original arches, bring softness to the solid form, while a green kitchen and textured finishes reflect the clients' desire for warmth and color. Carefully curated materials—natural stone, timber, and rattan—lend depth and character, making this a home designed as much for connection as it is for quiet retreat.
